Good Enough Ain’t Great

By Shawn Lucas, Technical Account Manager

Hey folks,

If you’ve ever watched a rock band try to reunite, you’ll appreciate what it feels like to get the crew back together. That’s kind of how it feels for me right now—and I couldn’t be more excited. After taking a little time away from the industry, I’ve officially joined the Shasta Cloud team as a Technical Account Manager. And let me tell you: it feels great to be back.

I’ve spent my career looking for ways to simplify the complex and make things work better for the folks who rely on them every day. So when the opportunity came up to join a team with a clear mission to make great Wi-Fi easier to deliver, I was all in.

Let’s talk about what that looks like.

Goodbye, “Good Enough.”

Here’s the truth: For a long time, tech companies sold you on speed. Faster Wi-Fi, bigger numbers, more ports. But eventually, all that speed outpaced what anyone actually used. These days, what separates the winners from the “meh” isn’t raw horsepower, it’s the experience.

We’re talking:

  • Easier to install
  • Simpler to manage
  • Reliable connections that work where and when people need them

Because let’s face it—if your Wi-Fi’s just “good enough,” what are you leaving on the table?

Why does Wi-Fi feel so commoditized today?

You’re not imagining it. Most Wi-Fi hardware looks the same, sounds the same, and does the same stuff (despite how manufacturers spin it). That’s classic commoditization. Having the best technology isn’t good enough anymore. It’s all about the experience you deliver beyond the hardware.

That’s why we focus on making the backend stuff (analytics, provisioning, security etc.) easier to work with at Shasta Cloud. More and more, I’m seeing companies shift toward creating experiences, not just infrastructure. It’s not about speed anymore, it’s about reliability, ease of deployment, and how the network supports daily life.

The Takeaway

People get stuck with "good enough" thinking. Maybe the current setup works okay. But how much better could it be? What opportunities are we missing when we settle?

At the end of the day, you want Wi-Fi that performs well, installs easier, and creates better outcomes for your business. That’s where I think there’s still a lot of room to grow. Honestly, I’m excited to help our customers go from “good enough” to the next level. The more we simplify the backend and focus on delivering awesome experiences, the more room there is to innovate and succeed.

Let’s build something better—together.

Talk soon,
